House of the Dragon Season 2 Release Date Window Given by HBO Max Exec

We now have a better knowledge of when HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series will return as we’ve received a House of the Dragon Season 2 release date window update.

Speaking to Variety, HBO Max content CEO Casey Bloy said that it would be a “good guess” that the show would be returning sometime in 2024 but that it wouldn’t be eligible for the 2024 Emmy season. The Emmys eligibility period ends on May 31, 2024, which puts the House of the Dragon Season 2 release date window at sometime during summer 2024. That means we have over a year before we’ll get to see more from the series.

Bloys also touched on the possibility of other Game of Thrones series spin-offs releasing, noting that there is no schedule for them.

“My philosophy is a good script is number one priority,” Bloy says. “I am not doing it based on wanting to have one a year, two a year. I want to do it based on the scripts that we’re excited about.”

“Remember to get House of the Dragon following up from Game of Thrones, we developed a lot of shows, shot a pilot, developed a bunch of scripts and we got House of the Dragon,” Bloys notes. “To do that again is going to take the same amount of effort. You have to develop a lot of things, try things. You never know what’s going to work. So we’re currently doing that. I’m not opposed to any number of shows. There’s probably a natural limit to how many fans want, but I’m open to any as long as we feel really good about the scripts and the prospects for a series.”

Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & BloodHouse of the Dragon chronicles the rise and the downfall of the Targaryens, the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria. It takes place 200 years before the events of the award-winning series adaptation of Game of Thrones, which aired its final episode in 2019.
